A Gatekeeper Butterfly

I spotted this in my brother-in-law's vegetable patch in France. Pretty sure it is a Gatekeeper butterfly (pyronia tithonus).

2016_52 - Week 1 - Metal

I've decided to attempt the 2016_52 challenge having not completed one since 2010!

Each week a topic is picked and all participants attempt to take a shot matching the title.

Week 1 was metal.  Thought I'd try and get some molten metal! Used a 70D on a tripod (useful having the articulated screen!) and a 580EX2 off camera on a stand. Manual focussed, put it on a timer and tried to get lots of smoke!

Araneus diadematus

Really tricky getting this little guy's eyes perfectly in focus - I braced against a fence and slowly adjusted my distance whilst on live view. I certainly appreciated the articulated screen.

Moss detail

Hello everyone and happy 2014!

Sorry I've not posted for a while - miserable weather has kind of left me a little uninspired! However, today the light was lovely and I decided to see what I could get out of my x100s in Macro mode.

Gecko

Camera handheld and manually focussed - always a challenge! The flash was off camera on a cord held by someone else!

A bee makes its last mistake..

I saw this in France. I've included a 100% crop so you can see the spider spinning the thread. In case you wondered, yes I do recommend the Zeiss 100mm Makro!

The white form of the "goldenrod spider" (Misumena vatia)

Saw this in France last week - never come across one before and thought it was rather attractive (as spiders go!) and unusual.

Captured on the 5D Mark II using the Zeiss 100mm Makro and natural daylight.

Colourful bee!

I'm not 100% happy with the composition of this shot, but I love the colours!
